Story

From The Begining

Bishop E.W. Parker

(Our Founder)

Edwin Wallace Parker, Son of Quincy B. Parker and Electa Mc Gaffy was born at St. Johnsbury on Jan 21st 1833. On the 2nd of March 1856 he was married to Louis Lee. He was appointed Missionary to India in 1859 and sailed over to arrive at Calcutta on 21st August. In Northern India he served in various capacities from 1859 to 1900.

On his being appointed in Moradabad he started a small school which has grown to present extent. He became impressed with the necessity of providing a home for the school. And so there grew up in his mind a plan for central building in the main street of the City. A building which would be both School and Church, whose doors would stand wide open inviting men of all creeds when passing by to enter where the Gospel was preached and Christian service was performed. It was not an easy task to provide funds, secure a site and prepare a building not until July 4th 1875 was the dream realized. This church building housed Parker High School till 1919 when it was shifted to its present site.

Dr. Parker served the last 11 years of his life in Nainital, Moradabad and Bareilly districts, he was elected Bishop of M.E. Church in India 1900 almost unanimously, shortly afterwards he fell ill and was taken to Nainital where he died.
